Wellington Trip  November 2024

Day 5 at Wellington Caravan Park and it is blowering a gale. So thought will start the report.

The travellers met at Cassilis free camp for the night then onto Wellington via Gulgong. Naturally we walk to the bakery at Gulgong.....WHAT ....it's now a Mexican Cafe. Find another cafe and it's ok. Call into Stacks for a browse, still heaps and heaps of supplies. Back to cars and vans and onto the open narrow road to Wellington. The pasture's are brown and dam's half full.

The caravan park has large grassy sites. We back in and the river is behind us. Great spot. Set up takes awhile then chairs out and we are relaxing looking at the river. Peaceful. Also there are 3 goats are behind the fence. In the arvo thunder starts, black clouds move in. We batten down the hatches then a couple drops rain and gone. A great happy hour was had looking at the river, so relaxing. We even had tea outside.

Started the day with breakky outside and then morning tea too. It is getting warm. Our first stop is Info Centre then we walk through Cameron Park, very clean. It is getting very hot so into the car for a drive around town. Plenty of old buildings and not many vacant.

Our sightseeing over our stay included the Sculptures at the entrance to Wellington Caves. It is the form of a tripod, 9 metres high and made from the girders of the old Wellington Bridge which fell down in 1989. There is a new modern centre at the Caves. Have a walk around the Japanese Garden which are very neat. Morning tea there and decide to not go in the caves as been before. Drive to Stuart Town where theirs a Pub, Post Office, Railway Statiion and a new looking General / Takeaway Store. Have a drive around Mumbil - pretty much a ghost town. Onto Burrendong Dam and try to get to the water. No luck as caravan park there and no entry. Finally find the lookout with couple tables for lunch and reasonable views. Quite low. Between Yeovil and Molong is "Animals on Bikes" sculptures. But first we call into the Banjo Paterson Museum for Devonshire Tea. Was so YUMMY.  Then a country drive trying to spot the sculptures. Some very good others in need of a bit of attention.

The camp kitchen is excellent. Large 5 burner BBQ, easy to cook on and clean. We cook Bacon & Eggs, Chicken Tenders and even have home made Pizza there one night. Now the late afternoon of Day 5 they are predicting a storm. We all say, "Doesn't look bad." Anyway we are in the Camp Kitchen cooking when the wind starts and the rain is going sideways. Gee it blew. Also the rain came down the wall and onto the BBQ we were cooking on. Meal was save and about half an hour later the storm was gone.

While here the weather has been vey hot and we happy just to veg out at camp and enjoy the view on a couple of days. Have enjoyed the sightseeing and the park. Would think about coming again as so relaxing.
